September: The school year is off to a great start and we have enjoyed getting to know the scholars! We look forward to an awesome school year!!
October: In Social Studies we have been learning about how inventions and technology shape our community. Scholars were able to use their creativity, and think of an invention that will change the way we live, work, communicate, or travel. Scholars had a lot of fun using "canva" to create banners for their invention. Please visit the AME website and check our AME's future inventors and their banners!
November: Scholars were able to communicate with another AME first grade class via Skype. The scholars were able to share their "I am Thankful For..." writing pieces and work on being effective communicators.
December: This month the scholars were able to participate in "Hour of Code." The scholars had fun learning how to write codes for mind-craft. Please ask your scholars about what they learned!
Home Project: Snowmen at Night! Please make sure your scholars complete their project and the writing piece.
January: This month we dove into research. Your scholars went through the process of learning how to gather information for their research, and how to organize the information they collected. Each class chose a different animal and we spent a lot of time using a variety of different resources to find information about our animals. The scholars generated questions and we spent several week using resources to find the answer to their questions. The scholars final projects came out great, and we have them displayed in the hallway. Please stop by and check them out.
February: We had a lot of fun celebrating the 100th day of school and seeing all of the awesome 100th day of school projects. In science we have been busy learning about natural resources. The scholars learned about how we can use resources from earth to make things. The scholars were able use different materials from earth to make bricks!
March: Our class fish are finally here!! This month the scholars will be learning about interdependence so we will be observing the fish as well as building terrariums. We have also been working on poetry this month. The scholars did a really great job with the poems. Feel free to stop by and check out their poetry books!
April: Things have been rolling in First grade! Each class is researching a Texas symbol. First graders enjoyed writing a letter to their friend. Math has been enriched with graphing, equal parts and learning time to hour and half hour. In science we learned about the food chain and life cycles!
